The ERGO long-term international health insurance tariff is ideal for a stay abroad of up to 24 months as a pupil, language student, student, doctoral student, visiting scientist, intern, volunteer, backpacker, participant in work and travel programs (booked via an organization or by yourself) and for a sabbatical up to and including the age of 55.

The policyholder (host) must be resident in one of the following countries: Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic. The place of residence of the insured person is irrelevant. The policyholder and the insured person must not be identical in the ERGO Overseas Health Insurance for Foreign Guests (Incoming).

Travel health insurance
ERGO International Health Insurance reimburses you for medical treatment costs in the event of illnesses and accidents during your trip. The following benefits are covered, among others:
- Necessary in-patient and out-patient medical treatment including operations and remedies
- Search, rescue and recovery costs up to 10.000,- EURO
- Pain-relieving dental treatments as well as repairs of dentures and dental prostheses
- Aids (e.g. walking aids, rental of a wheelchair), if they become necessary for the first time during the trip
- Medical treatment in case of complications during pregnancy
- Sum insured: unlimited
- Travel expenses for the visit of a close person in hospital in case of a hospital stay of more than 5 days
Return transport
- Medically appropriate return transport of the patient, including luggage transport, to your place of residence.
Transfer and burial
- Repatriation or burial abroad. Funeral costs up to the amount of the repatriation costs.
ERGO organises and covers the costs of medical and luggage transport for you. The emergency call centre is available to you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, worldwide for, among other things:
- Medical emergencies of all kinds
- Medication advice
- Information about the possibilities of medical care before and during the trip
- Assistance during hospitalisation
ERGO's health cover abroad
ERGO's international health cover consists of two independently selectable modules. Module 1 has one component:
- Health insurance abroad: Reimbursement of costs for medical treatment in the event of acute illness, return transport to the place of origin and 24-hour emergency call centre every day.
Building block 2 has these three components:
- Accident insurance: Extra protection for accidents abroad
- Liability insurance: Cover of liability risks for personal injury and property damage abroad
- Interruption insurance: Assumption of travel costs in the event of an unscheduled interruption of the stay abroad
Health insurance abroad
In the event of illnesses and accidents occurring during the stay abroad, the costs for the following, among others, are reimbursed:
- necessary outpatient or inpatient medical treatment, including operations and medicines.
- pain-relieving dental treatments.
- Aids (e.g. walking aids, hire of a wheelchair) if they become necessary for the first time during the trip.
- medical treatment of pregnancy complications.
- the medically reasonable and justifiable return transport of the patient to your place of residence.
- Search, rescue or recovery costs up to € 10,000.
ERGO Travel Insurance's emergency call centre provides 24-hour assistance in the event of medical emergencies, e.g.
- Organising a visit to the sick for a person close to you.
- Advance payment of costs up to € 15,000 to the hospital.
- Establishing contact between the attending physicians and your GP to exchange information.
Sum insured: unlimited.
Important to know:
There are risks that the international health insurance does not cover. For example, treatments that you already know before the start of your trip have to take place during your stay for medical reasons (e.g. dialysis) are not covered. Similarly, home holidays are not covered by the insurance.
Accident, liability and interruption insurance
1. Accident insurance:
- You will be compensated if an accident leads to permanent disability or death.
- Cosmetic operations after an accident are covered by us up to EUR 3,000.
However, there are also risks that are not covered by accident insurance. Accidents that happen to you while practising extreme sports such as rafting, free climbing, hang gliding or parachuting are not insured.
2. Liability insurance:
- Insurance cover is provided for liability risks (personal injury and property damage) during the insured stay.
- This also applies to damage incurred in the rented accommodation, to the rented furniture or in the host family's household up to € 1,000..
However, there are also risks that liability insurance does not cover. For example, all damages resulting from intentional acts are not insured.
3. Interruption insurance
- The unscheduled interruption of your stay is insured.
- Insured events are: the unexpected serious illness, serious accidental injury or death of a person at risk (parents, grandparents, siblings, children).
- Reimbursement of costsfor your outward journey to your home country and for your return journey to your country of residence.
Please note, however, that the interruption insurance does not pay in every case. Paid but unused benefits, such as pro-rata costs for accommodation in the country of stay, will not be reimbursed.
